The core principle of Shareo is that your files are your own. Our primary file transfer features are peer-to-peer (P2P), meaning your files are sent directly from your device to another device over a local network, and are never uploaded to our servers.
1. Information We Access
To provide its services, Shareo requires access to certain information and features on your device.
- Files You Choose to Share: When you use the “Send” feature, we access the files you explicitly select from your device’s storage. This can include photos, videos, audio, documents, and application package files (APKs). These files are only used for the direct P2P transfer you initiate.
- Information About Your Installed Applications: To provide the “Share APK” feature, we query the list of applications installed on your device. This allows you to select and share the installation files of your apps. We do not collect or store this list.
- Network Information (Local): To establish a connection for P2P Sharing and Web Share, the app uses your local network information, such as your device’s IP address and Wi-Fi network name (SSID). This information is only used locally on your network to connect devices and is not stored or transmitted to us.
- URLs for Downloading: When you use the downloader feature, we process the URL or magnet link you provide. This link is used solely to initiate the download on your device. We do not store a history of your downloaded links on our servers.
- Anonymous Usage Data: We may collect non-personal, anonymous analytical data, such as crash reports and feature usage statistics (e.g., which features are used most often). This helps us identify bugs, improve the App’s performance, and understand how to make it better. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you personally.
2. How We Use Information
- To Provide and Maintain Core Functionality: To browse and select files, establish P2P connections, operate the Web Share server on your local network, and manage downloads.
- To Improve and Optimize the App: To analyze anonymous usage data to understand which features are popular, to fix crashes, and to improve the overall user experience.
- To Comply with Legal Obligations: To adhere to applicable laws and regulations.
4. Permissions Required by Shareo
Shareo requires the following permissions to function correctly. We only ask for permissions that are essential for a feature to work.
- All Files Access (
MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): On modern Android versions, this is required to allow you to browse all folders and select any file type (like documents, ZIP files, etc.) for sharing. - Media Access (
READ_MEDIA_*): Required to efficiently discover and display your photos, videos, and audio files in the file selector. - Nearby Devices, Location, & Bluetooth (
NEARBY_WIFI_DEVICES,ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION,BLUETOOTH_CONNECT): Required by the Android operating system to scan for and connect to other devices over Wi-Fi Direct. Your location data is not read, stored, or tracked by us; this permission is purely a technical requirement for the Wi-Fi scanning to work. - Camera (
CAMERA): Required only for scanning QR codes to quickly connect to other devices. The app does not access your camera for any other purpose. - Install Packages (
REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES): Required to allow you to initiate the installation of APK files that you have either sent or received. - Query All Packages (
QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES): Required to display a list of your installed applications so you can select their APK files for sharing. - Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Required on modern Android versions to show you the progress of your file transfers, downloads, and the status of the Web Share service in your notification bar.
5. Data Security
We are committed to protecting your data. P2P transfers are made over a WPA2-encrypted, local Wi-Fi network created between the devices. While no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, we use commercially acceptable means to protect your information within the app. The Web Share feature is intended for use on trusted, private Wi-Fi networks only.
6. Children’s Privacy
Shareo is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.
